SSDS Email List User Guidelines
Updated: 9/17/2009
Our subscribers told us in no uncertain terms that they don't want excessive traffic on the SSDS list. In order to limit the mail coming from the SSDS list to a reasonable number, please observe the following guidelines. Please subscribe to the SSDS list only if you agree with them.
General Guidelines
- SSDS does not condone unsolicited email. Please do not use the listserv for subjects which are not swing dance related. This includes jokes, for sale items, fundraisers, noble causes, etc., unless they are swing dance related.
- Please do not place any of our email addresses on any mailing list without our knowledge and consent.
- When you are composing a reply, check the distribution list. It should go to the sender only, not to the listserv, unless your response concerns the whole list.
- If you activate an autoreply program (such as a vacation program), or if your email quota might be exceeded while you are away, please use the "NOMAIL" option described in the Email List Page. Otherwise the WebSlave, or worse, the whole list, might get your "Hi, I'm on vacation" message, or error messages from your mail server, and you will be removed from the list (you are welcome to resubscribe when you return, of course).
- If you want to unsubscribe or have another listserv related question, please use the information in the Email List Page. Do not send such requests to the whole list.
If you do not agree with these guidelines, please do not subscribe to the SSDS email list.
Guidelines for Frequent Posters
Dear dance instructors and organizers of dance events:
In an effort to limit the traffic on SSDS listserv to a reasonable volume, while providing an accessible medium for information exchange, we adopted the following guidelines for those who post messages regularly.
Important: Our society specializes in swing dancing, but we know that some of our members enjoy a variety of dances. As a service to those members, and as a courtesy to Syracuse area dance organizations who specialize in partner dances other than swing (such as Salsa or Tango), we allow them to post a maximum of one email per week (subject to the following additional limits). Such organizations from other geographic areas are not allowed to post on SSDS list.
Syracuse area or nearby organizations whose events include a significant amount of swing dances (including but not limited to ballroom and country) are requested to follow the following guidelines. We put specific numbers in each item to give you a reference point, not to micro manage your publicity efforts. Please use your best judgement.
- Lesson notices: once per session, about once a month.
- Weekly and monthly event notices: about once a month.
- Workshops and other special events: two postings, e.g., an initial announcement and a reminder.
- Dance calendars from nearby swing groups: about once a week.
- Important updates such as cancelations, change of venue or time, are always welcome.
If your event is not on the SSDS schedule page, please notify WebSlave. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
