Mark the above dates on your calendars and join us for free dances at Hanover Square with a diverse collection of great live bands. These events were created by The Hanover Square Association & Updowntowners in cooperation with SSDS, and we need your support to promote swing dancing. Check out these pictures from 1999 and 2000.
On all eight Friday evenings, local instructors will give free half-hour beginning swing lessons during the band break to anyone interested. We may also have dance demonstrations of West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing (Jitterbug), Lindy Hop or Hustle by area choreographers and dancers.
You may want to put on padded shoes as you will be dancing on a hard surface.

- June 21 -- Soft Spoken, R&B: WCS, Hustle, ECS. Instructor: Kim McLaughlin
- July 5 -- Tom Bridges & Dan Elliott, Oldies, R&R, ballroom: ECS, Lindy, Ballroom. Instructors: Lynn Miller & Co., holding a group participation (non-partnered) class, teaching basic Lindy/jazz steps, appropriate for all ages (including children) and all dancing abilities.

- August 2 -- Bobby Green & A Cut Above, R&B, Funk: WCS, ECS, Hustle. Instructor: Mary Ellen Dunlap
- August 16 -- Street Corner, 12-piece w/horns, R&B mix: WCS, Hustle, ECS, Lindy. Instructors: Ilona Hochmuth & Andy Prouty
- August 30 -- All that Jazz: Lindy, ECS, WCS. Instructors: Lynn Miller and Company
- September 13 -- Joe Whiting, R&B, Blues, Variety: WCS, Lindy, ECS. Instructors: Dan Amores and Caitlin George

Directions
From the South take route 81 to 690 West; from the West take route 90 to 690 East; from the East take route 90 to 481 south to 690 West. The rest of the directions is common to South, East and West. From route 690 take exit 11 to West St (one way), at the first exit turn right on Erie Blvd. After 2 blocks turn right on Franklin, and make an immediate left on Water St. From the North take route 81 to Clinton St exit. Four blocks south of the exit turn right on Water St.
From S.U, Take Crouse, turn left onto Harrison St towards downtown, immediately after University Hospital take a right onto Warren St. Continue for about 4-5 blocks, and park around Washington St & Water St. Hanover Square is on the left, between those two sts.
