The Syracuse Swing Dance Society, Ltd. has been in operation since 1995. It became an official New York not-for-profit corporation in June 1998, when we filed a Certificate of Incorporation with the Department of State. The corporation has eight directors, two of whom also serve as officers. Mary Ellen Datta is President, Greg Boyer is Secretary/Treasurer, and Tania Anderson, Isaias Banegas, Daniel Hermann, Rosalie Neri, Deborah Smith and Stacey White are the other directors. All eight act as volunteers. The mission statement is available on line, as are the minutes of business meetings. A copy of the corporate bylaws is available upon request. Not-for-profit tax status designations from the IRS have been obtained; you can make tax deductable contributions to SSDS.
As part of its mission to promote swing dancing and to serve the local dance community, SSDS will rent its sound system for a modest fee to cover the cost of insurance and wear and tear on the equipment. Rental policy and schedule can be found at this link.
In an effort to involve as many people as possible in the SSDS organization, the Board has decided to conduct frequent open meetings. The meetings will normally take place monthly at Panera Bread Company, 5701 East Circle Drive, Cicero, 13039. Please see the schedule page for the date/time of the next meeting. The meetings are open to all SSDS members and interested people. We will have an announced agenda, new business not specifically on the agenda will be discussed as well. At least one director/officer will attend each meeting. We want to hear your ideas about making SSDS even better. You are always free to send your ideas or comments to SSDS via e-mail at info@syrswingdance.org or by leaving a message on the SSDS information number, 315-434-9503. You may also choose to contact the officers/board members or other volunteers directly.
The first business meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 1998 at Damon's, Rt 31 & Damon Rd, Cicero.
